An energetic re-enactment of the classic pūrākau (legend) ‘The Birth of Māui’ for the whole class. Language focus on simple directions: ki runga/ki raro (up/down), ki te matau/ki te mauī (to the right/left), hurihuri (round and round)’, followed by a choreographed dance. Combined run time: 6.5 mins

A short play for five actors, telling how Māui fished up the North Island of New Zealand (Te Ika a Māui/Māui’s Fish), with a choreographed class dance to follow. Play includes some Te Reo Māori (vocab list included.)
